Support for Disqus commenting

Michael Becker 11 years ago in BLOX CMS updated by Sarah Taylor 10 years ago 5
Blox already has an option to turn on Facebook commenting. Now how about including the option for Disqus, which is an incredibly popular commenting system.

Moreover, Disqus has built a single sign-on solution into its API that, though it's a bit complicated, could be integrated with Blox logins, making the experience seamless for users.

At the very least, the option to use the free Disqus commenting should be one that's included.

We have explored offering a module that communicates with Disqus and will likely bring one to market.

One issue is that the single-signon feature does not provide a lot of control to the site. You can offer a BLOX login, for example, but you can't prevent a user from logging into Twitter and posting comments - even if you ban their user account in BLOX. Additionally, the process for acquiring an API key must be requested for each site via a control in their dash board and is  provisioned after review.

Disqus does support banning IP addresses in its admin backend, which might help with that concern over banning users. I imagine under this system most of the comment administration will happen in Disqus' system anyhow, unless you're planning on somehow linking the Blox comment moderation app to Disqus -- seem slike a lot of work.

I suppose I might as well update this to say that since I posted this, I have worked out a Disqus component and have implemented Disqus on our site -- alongside Blox comments on a separate tab. I even modified a few macros and got it working on Touch5, so we are standardized between the different platforms with Disqus.

And then I suppose I should log in with the open ID system I used originally and post the comment again with my "real" identity.
