I think workflows are part of total cms and not just hosted cms...
I can envision ways it would still work,,, for example we don't use site tags but if the reporter or editor doing the entry doesn't assign a section tag then it wont show up on site...

Alternately the autosave function could create a "draft" asset which isn't live until a human hits "Save and Publish" or something similar...
In the breaking news example the reporter could enter Police Stand-Off at 9th and Walnut as a headline, add breaking news section... hit save and publish and the headline shows up in breaking news ticker... He leaves the asset open and types notes in as he's in contact with the field and with the police... During this time every 5 minutes the system saves a "draft." 15 minutes later he composes notes into an initial report and hits save and publish... and the website is updated.
The draft status could be a status flag on the asset... so you could look at the revision history and see the initial "live revision" where the asset was saved, several "draft revisions" where changes were saved but the changes aren't live and the the updated live revision...

The system would always publish the last "live" revision.
My only concern is if we are working on breaking news (which would have an immediate publish date/time) we wouldn't want it to go live while typing mid paragraph...
that parallels what we saw, we have had a few instances where someone would keep creating user accounts to get around being blocked. We took care of that by enabling e-mail verification as part of the user setup.
We made the switch to "Real Names" almost three years ago. Comments went from at least a dozen a day to about the same number in the course of a week.

Comments went back to username inadvertently when we moved to flex. It was an easy switch back.

One of the issues that has elicited strong response was a proposed fairness ordinance. At that time we discovered we needed to disable the default profanity filter and replace it with something closer to "the seven dirty words." Even the local clergy were unable to post anything on the subject.
PS... If you like the old style pdf based book/page/grid view e-edition, it's not available if you move to flex...
I thought you could.
Are you using the live e-edition or the old style ones?
Not sure I like moving buttons that people are used to... But a "You have unsaved changes" warning with a "Save and close" "Close - lose changes" and cancel options is probably a good idea.
one of our remote locations were writing in word/text editors and not in IQue (competing editorial web product) and would paste into IQue when the story was done. So the editor could keep up with works in progress, all of these were saved to a shared directory on one of the workstations ... When the hard drive on the workstation failed all current work in progress was lost... Data on servers is backed up but not data on workstations. Everything the location was working on (items for the next several days papers, and upcoming special publications) was lost.

Bypass your companies official workflow at your own risk.
Sorry for the frustration, but between related assets, navigation blocks, utility link blocks, etc you have links within the site covered six ways to Sunday... Link assets really make sense for external links and like most site managers I prefer external links open in their own tab.

Flex does throw a wrinkle into this because most phone users aren't necessarily sure how to switch tabs or even if they have multiple tabs open.
Well it looks like they added the feature to syndication manager... The first time I tried it didn't work, but a support call corrected the problem. Still doesn't address the underlying issue of why you can't create a link asset and specify "New Tab" in the asset properties.

So I'm back to wanting to setup a block full of link assets. They open external sites and I don't want them to do that in the current window.

I would simply set the property on the block like jason mentioned... Except I moved to flex... and you can type in properties.

Why is something so basic as open my link in the current window or a new window so freaking hard?
