Michael, Those are secret and mysterious ways not disclosed to the uninitiated.....
Seven months later and we had a local event that we wanted to cover and not put behind the paywall. This time we choose the subscription_bypass = true method. It worked on the website but not on the touch 5 site. It also appeared to add an additional advertising spot to the "bypassed" pages. This spot was located in a position that would have been appropriate had we not had TN modify our templates. Instead it was in a bad spot.

Lesson learned... Test before you need to use a feature.
So the third feature request would be to have links follow the "generated previews" rules... (So if I link to nasa's photo of the day I don't display an image larger than the layout of the page.)
Originally it was not set. I set the crawl delay to 3 and left it for a week. There was no noticeable decrease in msnbot's activity, so I explicitly targeted msnbot and set it to 6. Same results so I changed it to 10...

I checked with dustin at townnews and he confirm the robots.txt was formatted correctly. His suspicion was that msnbot was not reading the robots.txt file every crawl instead it was caching that info and may have missed some of my changes. There is evidence to support this as it was several days after I set the disallow before the crawl activity from msnbot actually ceased. I may go back again and allow the crawl but set the delay back at ten. I'll leave it like that until we start seeing activity.
In fact I did and did notice some effects in the behavior of bingbot. After I updated sitemaps, settings, in the bing webmaster tools I noticed an uptick in the crawl rate by bingbot which then dropped off to about half it's previous consumption.

Neither the webmaster tools nor the crawl delay seemed to have any impact on msnbot-newsblogs or msnbot-udiscovery. Those two bots were accounting for 1/3 of our total pages served, Your staff did confirm the ip addresses the activity was coming from was Microsoft's but in the end I disallowed them. I have not seen any drop in our search results from msn.com/bing but did notice a lack on our content on news.msn.com. That concerns me a bit, but I had not seen any referrals from that domain in months anyway.
Amen, this was one of the first complaints we received from readers when we switched from newssys to blox... they couldn't print an article any longer and have the image included. We asked for it at the time and got a "Print the picture seperately" answer.

As far as we're concerned printing just the first image would be sufficient.
I passed this along to my management team. I suspect this will be a desired feature.
Well I think my previous comment on this was deleted because it contained inaccurate information. Based on my testing they work a lot like keywords only for locations

And clicking on the location tag opens a list of articles with the same tag. While that's fine I would still love to see them display a map similar to the location fields in the asset. It would be a big time saver for locations that are used over and over.
I know steve has worked with you all on several baby calendar contests, cute pet calendar contest, etc. In those cases we charge like $1 a vote and the winners appear in calendars we print. So in our case we would love to see some standard contest functionality with both paid and free voting. Also agree with the thumbs down to tying this in with the business directory because we don't use your business directory ;-)
